Want to buy an iPad, best finance option? (Student)

Main Post:

So I am in need of an iPad as my laptop is knackered & doing everything on my phone is not ideal! I want to buy the £331 iPad (student pricing). I got rejected for the Apple Barclays financing (because I’m a student my employment status is confusing and theres no option to say I’m a student). I’ll get my student loan in September so will be able to pay it off in full by then, but i can do small instalments until then, I was looking at currys pc world’s finance options but it’s complicated. I also have paypal credit but again, not sure how that works out! Thanks

Top Comment:

If you don’t have £331 to your name, perhaps you should get a cheaper second hand one, more in line with your circumstances.

And as a techie, I strongly advise you not to believe that a tablet is a complete laptop replacement, especially for typing-heavy tasks.

Tips on college student who wants to take personal finance more seriously?

Main Post:

Incoming 2nd year college, this year, I want to take my personal finance more seriously now, here's some of my questions;

  1. Most of my savings are currently stored sa e-wallets (maya wallet, maya savings, gcash, paypal)

Is it necessary to open a traditional bank account? -we tried multiple times mag pa open ng bank account pero due to lack of requirements di' nakakapag open (1 lang valid ID, walang COE)

2. I utilize different e-wallets for different purposes

Maya savings- EF

Gcash- basic wants (shoppee, snacks etc.) /contribution sa bahay / misc.

Paypal- receive payment / big wants / ipon or wala pang exact purpose (not gaining interest ><)

Bonus (physical wallet)- school money / day to day gastos

Is it safe mag store ng money sa e-wallets? ( around 60k+ )

3. Is it better to invest na din sa ibang bagay like life insurance, mp2, etc. The earlier the better or save those stuff for later?

4. Thinking about opening a gsave to store my ipon dahil may interest.

What are the informations I need to know before opening a gsave? (Medyo hesitant pa)

5. Any tips for a college student like me who wants to be financially literate and financially stable?

Edit: I think another important information to include is I don't have fixed earning, pero it's around 15k-30k a month depending on how much free time I have from school activities.

College is not the best time to be miserly.

The amount of your savings by the end of 4 years can easily be matched by your first few paychecks when you're working.

Just spend it, don't go into debt and have a good time.

Why everyone wants to break into “IB”?

Main Post:

I feel like every other post I read on this subreddit, there’s some undergraduate student trying to break into IB.

Asking for advice, willing to do whatever, etc.

There’s so much more to Financial Services than IB.

IB is cutthroat, super competitive and the chances of you getting a job in IB are very low.

Can I ask what is so attractive when it comes to this field for those desperately trying to break in? Are you aware of the long hours and no social life that comes with this? Why not other roles within Finance?
